Watersports at Sandbanks
Sandbanks has ideal conditions for all kinds of watersports, all year round. With facilities, lessons and equipment to hire for every age and skill level.
Sandbanks is one of the premier locations in the UK and a mecha for all watersports enthusiasts. Poole Bay offers an exceptional place for every type of watersport, calm seas with good consistent wind all year-round make it a unique location in the UK.
Regardless of your experience, sailing in the bay is safe and great to improve on your skills. On one side, more advanced riders have miles of open water with good offshore winds and the Jurassic Coastline as their backdrop.
However, on the otherside of the peninsula, there’s Poole Bay which is a sheltered harbour with only waist-height water, which makes it the ideal place for beginners to progress and gain confidence. Shallow water makes learning far easier as you can always just get off and walk straight back to the beach if you get exhausted.
Boasting one of the largest natural harbours in the world, Sandbanks is proving to be a really popular venue for watersports enthusiasts. With safe and shallow waters, it’s also an ideal place for beginners of all ages too!
Most windsurfers choose to use the Poole Bay side of Shore Road / Sandbanks Road, especially in summer months as there are usually no swimmers, just boarders and it offers a small beach to get setup and quick access to roadside parking so it’s a short run to get your kit.
The waters are usually pretty calm in Poole Bay however, there is direct inlet to open waters so conditions can get choppy enough for some proper jump and bump.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to companies that offer equipment for hire if you don’t have your own. On Sandbanks Peninsula we have The Watersports Academy, Poseidon, Easy Riders to name but a few.
There’s also H20 Sports located in Ashley Cross and Poole Harbour Sports located in Lilliput just down the road from Sandbanks.
