What To Expect

The activities below are split over your 3-day experience.

Mortons Manor

Arrive at a time to suit you and check into your hotel room any time after 3pm. Meet your guide and your fellow travellers for a welcome drink at around 6pm. Then free evening.

Lyme Regis Beach

Short walk to the beach to start your fossil-hunt with our expert guide. Let our expert show you the best places to find fossils, explaining what to look for and the age of the different finds. They'll be on hand to answer your questions and advise on what finds you can take home with you.

The Pilot Boat

Lunch at a central bistro restaurant with good choice of light lunches, very close to the museum. Lunch is not included in the tour price.

Lyme Regis Philpot Museum

After a short break for lunch, the group will meet up again with your expert guide at the architectural gem which is Lyme Regis Museum, built on the site of the former home of the famous Victorian palaeontologist Mary Anning. Enjoy a private guided tour. Discover 200 million years of history, from the remarkable discoveries of the fossil hunter Mary Anning, to the many writers who have found inspiration in the town.

Mary Anning Rocks Statue

After the museum visit the group will enjoy a short walk around the town and the beach to hear more about the fascinating story of early Victorian fossil hunter, Mary Anning, and visit her statue, recently erected in Lyme Regis. As you enjoy the walk, your expert guide will provide more information on the geology of the stunning landscape of the Jurassic Coast, pointing out the important features and answering your questions. This is a tour for the curious traveller. Learn something new and take home your own fossil finds.

Corfe Castle

Take a private guided walk around Corfe Castle with our local expert. Built by William the Conqueror, it was one of the first castles in England to be built from stone. It is positioned to defend one of the only gaps in the steep-sided Purbeck ridge which extends across Dorset.

St James's Church, Kingston, Purbeck

Next stop is a short journey to visit Kingston Church, nicknamed of ‘the Cathedral of Purbeck’, which according to John Betjeman ‘gleams with Purbeck marble’.

The Square and Compass

Enjoy lunch at the ultra-traditional local pub, included in tour cost.

Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door

Lulworth Cove. This a wonderful geological masterpiece and striking horseshoe-shaped cove has been carved out of the cliffs. Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch made of rocks some 140 million years old. Stair Hole is where the rock layers are folded into a remarkable structure called the ‘Lulworth Crumple’.

Mortons Manor

Return by group transport to Mortons Manor Hotel in Corfe where the tour ends.
